Resolving "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000007b)" in MOSS 2007
Friday, December 28th, 2012
I was recently working on a client site and had developed a SharePoint MOSS 2007 application to iterate through some data on their local SharePoint installation. I had compiled and tested on a local environment of mine but when I went to run the application on their system I was receiving the error "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000007b)".
After looking into a number of recommendations from Google I eventually ran out of options and decided to try compiling the application against the Microsoft.SharePoint.dll from their machine instead of my development machine.
Low and behold this resolved my issue. It turns out that my DLL was from MOSS 2007 SP2, they were still using the original SharePoint and it was having issues with the dll signature but it wasn't telling me that was the case.
Hopefully that will save some of you a couple of hours troubleshooting.
DLLin' Tom Out.
