Powerline Ethernet Adapters = Very bad with vacuums
Sunday, September 28th, 2008
This is comical to me, but while I was doing some work on ImapBack today I was continually losing ethernet connectivity. My network setup is done in a manner which our router is downstairs providing wireless, and we connect to 2 separate hubs throughout the house using powerline ethernet adapters (which are very cool, and work great).
My girlfriend was helping me by vacuuming downstairs while I was working earlier, and after losing ethernet 3 separate times, I started actually thinking (a rarity for myself at times) and realized that it was working when she wasn't vacuuming, and wasn't when she was vacuuming.
She was plugged into the same outlet as the main ethernet adapter in my room, and the vacuum was pulling the majority of the electricity from both sockets, hence my network was failing because it didn't have enough power to transfer packets from the adapter.
Just a note to any of you using powerline ethernet adapters... don't vacuum while plugged into the same socket if you want connectivity.
Powerline Tom Out.
